  • With 300,000 officially declared deaths to date in India (3.5 million globally, and counting), the pandemic has nonstop been claiming thousands of lives of Indians every day in its 2nd wave, and unimaginably beyond the clutches of our govt-sanctioned vaccines.
  • The world watches on horror-struck, inadequacy and impotence drilled into its marrows even as the 3rd wave hurtles toward the country in Sports-Mode on steroids; merely months away, so the scientists say; and with the masses still reeling under the shock of the 2nd wave!
  • The pandemic ironically has fancied no distinction between the homeless and the billionaire. And the latter, despite having received the best medical care, could do absolutely nothing to drive the virus away with their wealth.

Why couldn’t any medical treatment heal those who sadly passed on? One reason. They suffered from a compromised immunity.

Would this then mean that those who are yet fine and haven’t contracted Corona so far have stronger immunity? Maybe yes, maybe no, or maybe they have simply been taking better care of themselves by diligently maintaining social distancing and wearing masks without fail while stepping outdoors; immunocompromised or otherwise; for the disease is airborne.

Here, I list out the ABC’s to stick with if you are looking to tide the pandemic phase over safely, along with your loved ones unscathed.

#1 View and approach the pandemic without fear but without overconfidence either, remember, and with prudence woven into each breath and step you take. Do not let your guard down, ever. Routine hand sanitization along the day, using alcohol-based sanitizers, and avoiding touching the face unless a must are both mandates to staving off the virus.

#2 While stepping out, compulsorily mask up, ensuring both the nose and the mouth are covered. And before opening the front door, remember to spray the external area of your mask with an alcohol-based sanitizer and sterilize it. However, ensure it stays only mildly damp and not soaking wet before you wear it. This works as a double protection, for aerosols or fine viral droplets in the air (not visible to the naked eye) hitting the external area of the sterilized mask will have to deal with the alcohol first.

#3 Keep as far as you can from public enclosed spaces with people. Under unavoidable circumstances, before entering the space, once more spray the external portion of the mask with the alcohol spray. Ensure you carry a pocket-sized sanitizer spray bottle with you when you step outside.

#4 Cross-ventilate your house or living space at least twice daily. I repeat; Corona is an airborne viral disease. To have the air moving will mean to keep the virus moving. Keep refreshing the indoor atmosphere.

#5 Strengthen the lungs and the involuntary muscles surrounding the heart with deep breathing exercises attentively performed every day. Make this an obligatory part of your daily morning routine. There are many techniques one could choose from, but the easiest and most effective is the 1:1 technique.

Here is how you do it. Sit straight, keeping your back erect. A dining chair would be ideal for older people, or sitting cross-legged on the floor is also fine. Inhale deeply and soundlessly, exerting no strain while inhaling, then hold your breath for 5 seconds. Then exhale and wait for 5 seconds before you inhale again. That’s it. This is one cycle. Perform 20 cycles a day, splitting them into morning-night sessions of 10 each. As you progress, gradually increase the duration of the breath-withholding time from 5 to 10 seconds, and so on, going by however much time you can manage without hurting your lungs or straining. Diligently done, the exercise will triple your lung capacity within 90 days.

#6 Anti-oxidative factors ingested every day, along with the intake of essential nutrients much needed by the body to function at optimal levels are indispensable in building an unshakeable, rock-solid immunity.
